Hola, mi nombre es Cinthia Sarahi Burgos Guzmán, soy originaria de Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, México, tengo 29 años de edad. Incursioné en el basquetbol desde los 10 años. La habilidad y destreza desarrollada en ese deporte me permitió, primero que nada, desarrollar un carácter fuerte y decidido, además de mucha disciplina. Asimismo el basquetbol fue un medio para conseguir becas y poder estudiar en excelentes escuelas.

Hello, my name is Cinthia Sarahi Burgos Guzmán, I am 29 years old and originally from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico. I've played basketball since I was 10 years old. The skill and dexterity developed in that sport allowed me, first of all, to develop a strong and determined character and lot of discipline. Likewise, basketball was a means to obtain scholarships and to be able to study in excellent schools.

Son muchas las anécdotas vividas durante mi vida deportiva que hasta la fecha continúan, así como también son muchos los agradecimientos que le debo a mi amado deporte, como el hecho de haberme permitido forjar verdaderas amistades, conocer otras ciudades, pero sobre todo el probarme a mí misma que no hay límites, que uno llega hasta donde quiere, cuando así se lo propone.

There are many anecdotes I could tell you from my life as an athlete, which to this day continue. But I am specially thankful to the sport for having allowed me to forge true friendships, to visit other cities, but above all to prove myself that there are no limits, that you get where you want, when you set it as a goal.

Como deportista mexicana pasé carencias, batallé para conseguir los pasajes, hubo ocasiones en las que entrené en instalaciones no adecuadas, e inclusive en las que mis compañeras de equipo no me aceptaban, pero todos esos obstáculos hacían que mis victorias fueran mayores al igual que mis nuevos retos.

As a Mexican athlete, I went through shortcomings, I struggled to get money for tournament travel, there were times when I trained in inadequate facilities, and even in those that my teammates did not accept me, but all those obstacles made my victories bigger as well as my new challenges.

Dentro de las vivencias que más disfrute, fue el pertenecer a la Selección Sonora en la categoría Pasarela (12-15 años). Fueron meses de extremo sacrificio. Entrenaba de lunes a jueves en mi ciudad de origen bajo la supervisión de mi entrenadora y madre, Rosa Guzmán Monzón, en el Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora. Después continuaba mis entrenamientos con la selección Sonora el fin de semana, en otra ciudad del estado, lo cual representaba el trasladarme en autobús a grandes distancias. Recuerdo que el desgaste físico era tanto, que en ocasiones me quedaba dormida durante las clases, las desveladas por las tareas eran recurrentes, y mi vida social y familiar se veía resumida a ver escasos 10 minutos de cualquier película o a comer de vez en cuando con mis padres y hermanos. Toda mi atención y energía se enfocaba en una sola cosa: el campeonato nacional.

Among the experiences that I most enjoyed, was belonging to the Sonora National Team in the junior category (12-15 years). They were months of extreme sacrifice. I trained from Monday to Thursday in my city of origin under the supervision of my coach and mother, Rosa Guzmán Monzón, at the Sonora Technological Institute. Then, I had to continue my training with the Sonora team over the weekend, in another city in the state, which meant commuting long distances by bus. I remember that the physical exhaustion was so much that sometimes I fell asleep during school classes, staying up late to do homework was a need, and my social and family life was summarized to watching a movie for 10 or to eating at home from time to time with my parents and brothers. All my attention and energy focused on one thing: the national championship.

Cabe mencionar que este mismo objetivo y dedicación era compartido por todas mis compañeras de equipo, lo que permitió que la meta fuera alcanzada, se obtuvo el campeonato nacional en Guanajuato y con ello uno de mis más grandes logros como deportista.

It is worth mentioning that this same goal and dedication was shared by all my teammates, which allowed the goal to be achieved, the national championship was won in Guanajuato and with it one of my greatest achievements as an athlete.

Me despido de ti, joven entusiasta y deportista, invitándote a seguir luchando por conseguir tus metas, a abrir tus alas sin miedo a volar, invitándote a soñar. Me despido, compartiendo una frase que hasta el día de hoy me acompaña en mí caminar de la vida:

Cinthia querida! Que bueno es leer ese párrafo donde hablas del equipo de Sonora. Tenemos tantas historias! Que maravilla poder haber compartido ese tiempo sumamente formativo con chavas tan fuertes como ustedes. Creo que hasta la fecha esa etapa de mi vida es la que más me define como persona. Ganar un campeonato con las condiciones de las instalaciones en donde practicamos y la falta de apoyo económico me hace pensar que podemos hacer todo el la vida. Si tuviera que escoger un equipo para pelear contra el mundo, sin duda las escogería a ustedes!!! Que suerte de haber tenido ese equipazo.

Cinthia dear! How nice it is to read that paragraph where you talk about the Sonora team. We have so many stories! How wonderful to have shared this highly formative time with young girls as strong as you. I believe that to this day that stage of my life is what defines me the most as a person. Winning a championship with the conditions and the facilities where we got to practice and the lack of financial support, makes me think that we can achieve any goal in our lives, no matter how big. If I had to choose a team to fight against the world, I would definitely choose you girls! How lucky I am to have had that great team.
